A friend was kind enough to let me use his 600mm + 1.4 for about 10min. I have to have a long lens no matter how expensive or heavy!!! It is almost like cheating!

1/1300, f8, ISO 1000, FL 840mm taken on the eastTexas gulf coast.

    Hi Kathy,
I like the capture...the bird has a sharp clear eye with a good head angle...a few points to consider...I would open up the mid-tones in the under wing and around the face area, you were shooting in mixed light, thus the shadows...I would recommend on adding canvas to the right side of the frame, to give this fellow more flying room, and a tad more on top and on the bottom, it feels a bit tight. Might also selective sharpen the eye just a tad more...sweet image, looking good Kathy...now you are in big trouble... It's time to save for the new toy (600mm)...:D:cool:

Didn't know those who use a 600 are cheating. No wonder they get better results :D:D

Like the sharpness ( guess cheating pays) and colors. Agree with Gus re techs.

Until I can afford a 600mm lens, which isn't in the foreseeable future for me, I like the idea that it is cheating! I like it alot! Oh, about the image: from someone who hates the comment "it seems a little tight in the frame" when applied to my own images,..well Kathy, it seems a little tight in the frame. regards~Bill

Hi Kathy Agree with comments Main one being tight in frame !!

You did come up with a one sharp image, well exposed and in a good flight position !! I also like that you cranked up the ISO for obtaining a reasonable shutter speed !!! You did well with the lens/converter It is not easy tracking with all that magnification ... actually just acquiring the subject is a challenge !!!! Big Congrats !!!

Hi Kathy - agree with the above comments - now you are in trouble - see what using a 600 does to you :)
Mixed light is the main problem and needs a little more space - but nice start to your 600mm adventures :)

Great sharpness Kathy with you signature crop:). I have only used long glass once and I am saving up too.
It has great reach. The weight of the 600 is pretty hefty though!
