I photograped this today at JN Ding Darling. Nice day with plenty of Spoonbills. Used my Sony A100 with a Sigma 50-500 mm lenses, data=f/11, 1/640, 0 ev, ISO 400, 500mm, fill flash with Better Beamer. I know many do not like black backgrounds but I like how the Spoonbill seems to pop. This particular one has a deformed beak, it sort of has an hour glass shape. I see I missed some dust spots. I welcome C&C's. Thanks, John

Pose and perch are nice. The composition looks somewhat unbalanced. Maybe a crop off the bottom and a bit more room at the top. If you want to go for a dark BG then I would remove the brighter specks.

    Is this better?

Yes, looks better to me. A vertical crop might work, too.

Ditto vertical crop. I think you did really well to expose this. Nice pose. Well done
