    I know this extreme enlargement is rough even for ID purposes, but I am curious.

    This was shot in the middle of the mouth of the Delaware Bay in the second week of May. The bird was flying low over the water headed toward the ocean. If it is a Booby , its the first I've seen around the mid-atlantic.

    It looks to me like a young Northern Gannet; which is in the same family as boobies.

    It looks like a juvenile Northern Gannet to me, too.

    Nice thought Joe but Axel and Paul have it- a young gannet, probably 2nd year because of the dark upper surface of the wings. Boobies look very much like small, dainty gannets but I can see how the 2nd year plumage of this gannet could lead you to think it was something else.
