    Pete,

A couple of things that are not working in this image IMHO. The exposure seems to be a bit off and the image is tad bit soft. It could be due to the conditions that you were in while making this one. I am not sure what can be manipulated and corrected in PS. Let's see what some of the other contributors have to say... Thanks for sharing.

NB: I also see some grain in this and my impression was that 1DMKIII was good at removing this even at ISO1600. Am I correct in saying this?

    Hi Pete,

This one doesn't work for me either. The large feeder and close bg are both distracting. I lik ethe way the bird is looking at you, but it appears to be quite soft. I think the grain in the bg is from sharpening the bg. You may have avoided this by selectively sharpening only the bird. I suggest putting up some natural perches. They should be placed so you get a pleasing, distant, oof bg when you photograph a bird on the perch. I hope this helps.

I am finding the texture in the BG distracting. Jim's suggestion to put up a perch is a good one. Make sure it is far from any BG distractions and when you capture the image use a large aperture to minimize DOF and make the BG soft.
