I could not get any closer to this Bobolink without getting in his breeding habitat.
I'd like to know what do you think about the crop. Subject too small or not?
Too dark detail-less bird or does it matter, is it overall OK image?
Thanks as always!
Ilija, I like the color tones in your BG very much and like the feel of isolation created with this comp. I would try to bring some life into the eye. Fabs says when you have a small subject it is best to keep them at a corner-I would take a bit off the bottom and the left to comply with Fabs' suggestion about composition.
llija I like your crop and idea very much Just get the little bird closer to the corner Ian's looks great also and gives a different look !!
One thing with either is exposure ... the little guy is at Dmax and you need some detail in the feathers and a catchlight would be great !!! I like the overall feel !!!
Hi Ilija,
I like the composition, it shows the subject in it's natural habitat...the image is a tad under exposed and you are lacking details in the blacks...I adjusted your image and composition to show you a different point of view...I cropped a little from the top and a hair to the left side of the frame...I adjusted the black point, and adjusted the mid-tones. I boosted the saturation and contrast, opened up the area around the eye and selective sharpened, and ran noise eduction in the background...see if this present best to you...
Thank you for the excellent comments and suggestions.
This is exactly what I was hoping for.
I agree a catch light and brighter bird would be nice.
Great job in the re-posts, especially Gus' extra contrast
gives more life to it.
Here I tried to put the bird in a third vertically and a quarter
horizontally. From your comments I think it is preferable
to put it in quarter frame vertically too.
Hi Ilija, I have even another option......more on thirds.
Note that no fronds touch the frame edge
And clone out grasses touching the bird. Open the eye a bit too.
Having answered your question, the biggest issue with this image to me is neither the small size of the bird nor the large empty background. It's the lack of sufficient details in the bird.
