This was taken yesterday morning during my quest for a "perfect" flying tern picture. This guy is fluttering his wings rapidly, virtually hanging up there in the sky in preparation for his dive into the water after food he has spotted. (Their eyesight is extraordinary!) I took lots of pictures of the tern activity. I think -- I hope -- I'm getting closer to my goal. There is almost no crop on this one and adjustments and sharpening are fairly minimal. Hope you like it . . .

    Hi Wendell

You are coming up with good poses and images are sharp. Wondering what the histogram looks like? This look under ... one of the most difficult things is to have the eye clearly visible. Looks like you had lots of clouds and don't see the exposure at -1/3

One difficulty with these is trying to have the bird illuminated and here you probably need a little luck or heavy overcast with no shadows. Will try to dig up a turn image to post !! .... btw do like it !!! ... got one in birds if you want to take a peak http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=38587

Quite good pose and feel, in addition to Al's excellent comments
I'd say you've got blue hue, you can get rid of it by changing the
temperature in PS. Also there are several dark spots, (water drops?)
    can be easily cloned away.

    Cheers, Ilija

Alfred, I would post the histogram for you, but I don't know how to do that. Just now re-checked my exposure; -1/3 is correct, that is what I had my camera set at. I did look at your tern image, and it is beautiful. I have some similar poses but none that nice. I appreciate your comments . . . am learning a lot here.

llija, I'll clone out those dark spots. I took out one but should have noticed the others. I guess they are a result of a dirty lens.

Hi wendell - agree with AL'S fine critique - looks like a couple of dust bunnys present there.
Does seem to have a bit of a blue cast - and some additional sharpening on Mr Tern might be in order.
Like the pose - just wish the eye was visible.

    Hi Wendell,
This is a mighty fine capture indeed, I like the wing position...The image is a tad under exposed, would recommend on lightening the area around the eye, and selective sharpen it, would also adjust the mid-tones...looking forward to your next one...

Very nice capture, Wendell. Like the pose and the soft feel of the wings. Agree with the advice already given, and I would crop some from the top and right to move the bird off-center.
