Default First Impressions -- Shinko 1245

HOLY COW! That about sums it up.

The big brown truck paid a visit and brought me the printer that I will lovingly refer to as "The Beast."

It is big, ugly, heavy and built like a tank, but the prints that come out of it are just beautiful!

The guy I worked with a couple weeks ago has had one bouncing around in the back of a bumper pull trailer for a few years and never had a problem so I'm thinking it will hold up to being gingerly carried to the car a few times each month. That said, someday I'll get a second for my office and to have as a spare. I'm pretty anal about spares.

8x10 prints pop out in about 30 seconds, already dry to the touch and ready to pack or hand to a client. 5x7's are much faster and, if one chooses, are automatically cut to size.

Finding the best way to run 4x6 prints through it to minimize paper wast took me a few minutes with a sheet of paper and some math with square and linear inches, but now that it has been done, I'm off and running.

I literally had it off the truck, in the door, and looking at my first print withing about 10 minutes. Obviously I didn't do any profiling at that point, but that comes today.

The colors were great right off the bat with the only real adjustment made on print number two was to compensate for the printer printing a little lighter than I would prefer.

I'd definitely recommend shopping around right now. Apparently there was a recent price drop that hasn't made it to all the distributors yet. I got mine for $945.00 less than the closest competitor on price, plus I got free shipping. www.pfsny.com

Just to summarize the pricing. I paid $1995.00, the closest I've seen elswhere is $2950.00 and I've seen several for $3900 and more.

The same goes for the smaller S2145 as far as pricing.
I'd like to add one to the mix eventually, but I've added enough to the business in the last week or so that I need to let everything settle in first. The 2145 is running right at $1800.00 or higher just about everywhere I've looked. But PFSNY has it for just under $900.00.
