    Default Another Bushtit

    D90, 200-400mm, 1.4tc, f/7.1, 1/1000, ISO 800

Posted my last Bushtit picture because I liked the composition. Here is another one using a closer crop, higher ISO, and faster shutter speed. He is helping to build a nest. Remember that this bird is no larger than many hummingbirds.

Hi Brian - A little tight maybe - you have a good HA and eye contact on the bird, and even lighting on the bird.
Lots of shadows and dark area's in the BG - mixed light is very difficult to work with.
The leaf on the RHS is a little distracting.

    Looking forward to seeing more.

agree with lance, it seems tight in the frame for me. and the bg is too busy for my tastes too. might not be so bad if there wasnt as many elements intersecting the bird. you are doing extremely well getting this tiny bird so big in the frame. really nice!!

Thank you for the suggestions!! The background is busy but I'd imagine that this is the case near most Bushtit nests. Indeed, it took a lot of planning/work to get a clear shot of the bird.

The crop is close because I wanted to highlight the delicate nature of the fibers with which they build their nests (no "sticks" in this nest). Note that he's about to position a very thin/small silk fiber.

BG comments already mentioned. The image looks a little bit soft on my monitor - perhaps another round of sharpening would help. Good exposure on the bird - I shoot with the exact same set up and notice that noise typically becomes a factor at ISO 800 and above, but this looks quite good.

    Hi Brian,
I can live with the framing as is...you have a good head angle and sharp eye...the brown leaf to the right of the bird needs to be evicted, and you could have blurred the background elements more by shooting wide open, perhaps with an f/4 aperture...looking forward to your next one...

Hi Brian You did well with this little guy Tough going after him with anything less than a 600 !!!

Agree with comments and would like seeing more room around the bird I know the bg is not ideal but feels kind of tight as presented !!! Neat !!!
