Hi, anyone using this for LCD viewing? Cheers, Jay
For me it gets in the way Jay and I don't judge image sharpness in camera any way Can see how it will be easier to see histogram in bright light !! .... btw that has to be the ultimate Chimping tool !!!!! :)
Another gimmick that does nothing to improve ones skills.
I use it at times to see the histogram---It can be hard to see the right edge of histogram in really bright sun. It is annoying at times but it works for me....
I know my dad uses it because he can't easily read the information without either using the Hoodloop or breaking out reading glasses every time he wants to look at the data on the back.
If you're young and have good eyes, you don't necessarily need one, but I would not discount its usefulness, because some day I'll need one, too :)
I just one of this because I have trouble seeing the LCD outside. It does give me a nice sharp, glare free image. Much sharper than my bifocals and less glare than a hat or cupped hands. Is it worth $80? Probably depends on your visual acuity or lack thereof.
Mike, I do not know how old you are or if you wear glasses. However, don't knock it until you try it or need it!
I wear glasses and now that I have the Loupe, rather than taking my glasses off and then putting them on again to see the histogram after taking a shot, I simply use the Loupe which is around my neck. There is no doubt that with the Loupe, those using it see the histogram far better than you do. I was amazed at how clear the LCD is under the Loupe.
The 5D2 screen under the magnified Loupe is amazingly sharp - 920,000 pixels.
The sad shame is that a comment like yours actually causes members to shy away from admitting that they need and use the Loupe.
Believe it or not, I have received more than one PM recommending the Loupe and indicating that they didn't want to publicly acknowledge using the Loupe because of the potential criticism they would endure.
BTW, have you actually used the Loupe or are you forming an opinion from a picture?
Jay
I have one. I use it when I am doing macro work and really like it as fine detail is so important. Being of the age where "my arms aren't long enough anymore" I find it very helpful with macro work in the field. On the other hand, I've never used it for my bird photography.
Ive been really considering one myself for the very reasons stated. Seems to me to be a useful tool in the field. As for "chimping" I dont think of myself as a good enough photog to not check my shots. Id hate to get home and find that I should have tried the shot a bit different.
I use one in bright sunlight. It works well in that situation.
