    Default Printing Help

I'm going to be printing several images for an art/photography show at our local farmers' market, one of which is shown above. I would like some tips on how to print them out so that they look the same on print as on the computer screen.

My printer is an HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One.

Previously, I've printed out notecards of my photos on cover stock, and for those I usually find I have to increase the brightness and contrast in Photoshop to make them look the same as on the screen. For these prints, though, I will be using high-quality photo paper. I've never used photo paper before so I don't know how that will affect the brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc. of the prints; and I don't want to have to use up a lot of paper experimenting.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Hi Chris Could fill a couple of pages with the answer !!!

Soft proofing is about the only way to make sure of the output. So far the best advice I've seen on printing has to be the video form Luminous Landscape Detail form A to Z Could go to the chapter for proofing and skip all else but recommend watching the entire video ... I have several times !!!

... Sweet image Big Congrats !!!!

Congratulations! The basics are that you have to have a calibrated monitor and disable the printer's handling of colors. Let PhotoShop determine colors. Be sure your paper profiles for the printer you are using are loaded into the driver. Like Al says soft proof to look for glaring differences. Remember that you will not get exact color match, but a close match that will look good in print.

I don't mean to sound elitist, but most high quality prints are made with printers dedicated to photography and have 8- 10 colors. Often all in one office printers cannot reproduce the full gamut and tonal range of colors shown on your monitor.

Again like Al said there are books and books addressing this subject.

Al, are your referring to From Camera To Print - 6 hours 40 minutes - $34.95; or, is there a different video?

    Thanks Mate, Jay
