I was lucky enough to find this one away from the flock.
Waded out into the water to get a low and close shot.
    Taken just before dawn.
    Canon 40D
    100-400L at 400mm
    F5.6
    ISO 3200
    0.0 EV
    cropped for composition
    shadows darkened
Ran through Noiseware to get the 3200 out of it.

i've always been a fan of this type of work and i like what you did here with the shadows. i'd crop a lot off the bottom leaving room for the virtual feet. the reflection is not strong enough to leave in and the composition seems a lot stronger without it. awesome job with the noise at 3200. would have never known!!

I like the image and capture Steve. The black background showcases your subject quite well I like the turned head pose and the fine details...agree with or resident Doctor in reference to the reflection...good show...looking forward to your next one...

great detail in the head! I am amazed at your image at 3200 ISO. What was your shutter speed?

Sorry I forgot to put the shutter speed in the OP,, It was 1/640th. My 40D is good with noise as long as I dont try and lighten the image any, even when taken in RAW. So 3200 doesnt bother me often. I also do not use any PhotoShop software, just Canon's DPP and then the free version of Noiseware, Picasa to tweek, view and sort.
I will try the crop later tonight and repost, I am interested to see how it looks as I liked the reflective colors in the water and the small space under the reflection, but I can get over reflective at times, (pun intended).
    Thanks for the input folks.

Love the drama in this one - colours are great as well, agree with the critique - cropping out the reflection.
Gorgeous light and love the black BG.
    Looking forward to seeing more.

hey, steve. be careful with picasa. it will change your exposure without asking you or telling you!!! i loved it in the beginning, but after seeing what it was doing, deleted it from my computer and never looked back!!!
