This is my first post, so I hope I've done things right here :)
This flying duck just seemed too good to not get on the "cloning and masking bandwagon". The bird is "as it was" plus some sharpening of the head. The problem was that there was almost no space on the left side of the frame, so I extended the canvas and "created" additional background to get nicer framing. Can you tell?
Sometimes the "painting-like" look of the wide-open Nikkor 70-200 is just right. When I get the focus bang-on, that is ;)

Thanks, Wheeler. You are right. Flying ducks are hard. I always seem to be set up for something else when the ducks come flying in....I think I got lucky. I didn't have to change metering for this one. So much seems to be chance with this type of work.
Welcome to BPN and thanks for posting! You did a good job capturing this Mallard in flight. From a composition standpoint, I think this image could improve by cropping a bit off the rear. Nice work on adding canvas, had you not mentioned, I would have never suspected that you added canvas. The lack of light is the only major drawback in this image, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your comments. I was curious about your comment about lack of light. I just realized that I forgot to convert the color space, and since I don't know whether you are on windows or on a mac, that could be a contributing factor. Based on how it looks here, I actually like it. Or maybe you just would like to see the image brigher.
I'm going to repost the sRGB version.
Let me know if you still would prefer it lighter, of if changing the color space changes your mind.
Hi Mary, from a technical standpoint there was light when you made this image. When I say "lack of light", I'm referring mainly to the quality. The light is very flat, and doesn't create a lot of impact.
