Here is another tree swallow that I liked. CanonEOS 40D 100-400mm with 1.4tc at 560, f/8, 1/3200, ISO 800. I thought this had better wing position than the last. Thanks for everyone's comments.

It does have better wing position as far as I'm concerned, but the details don't appear as good. A lot of noise reduction? Composition-wise, I'd leave more room on the right where the bird was looking at (likely where the perch/nest box was :)). I think you could make this a bit brighter, too, after the fact.

Just want to add perhaps more room should be added at the top, too, as I - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - believe this bird was flying in an upward path.

Warning: Photographing flying swallows could be addictive.

Agree with Desmond's fine critique - does seem to be a loss of detail common with aggressive NR.
    Keep em coming :)

Too much NR, it looks like a painting :D I would start processing again and apply NR before resize and sharpen. watch for detail when adjusting NR. Nice shot.

Hi Nick At 800 you should not be having that much trouble with noise !! The 50D is slightly noisier and its easy to deal with !!!

First make sure you are not underexposing by anything, if you open up in PS the image is delete material. For removing noise try Topaz, it seems to do work well and not affect sharpening as much. Fabs has been using another one recommended by Dave T which might be even better.

    Hi Nick,
I like the capture with the wings flipped back in a breaking flight angle...agree with the techs. mentioned...looking forward to your next one...
