Default Eared Grebe Silhouette - BANWR

Sara & I headed down to Buenos Aires NWR southwest of Tucson this morning. Aguirre Lake was mirror smooth when we arrived, but the few birds that were there kept to the opposite shore as we rounded the lake.

I saw this image heading my way as this Grebe slowly sailed past us in the opposite direction, so I got to a clearing between some grasses and waited for it to get to the reflections I wanted. The wake looks much better in the original images! A few hot spots on the Grebe's back, neck & bill are water droplets that focused the sunlight.

Very nicely composed, with enough in front of the bird to balance the wake in the water. Good placement in the frame, since the wake is an important part of the composition and story.
