Taken three days ago on a mildly overcast morning. I like it that the reflection in the water meets the Egret's "real" image in so many places. Actually the guy got a fish on this probe, which I got a few pictures of, too. But I like this pose better. The image is minimally cropped and adjusted in Lightroom. The water color is changed (to bluer) only slightly. Have i got the white balance right? How about the crop, enough room? C&C appreciated.

nice reflective image Wendell, I won't comment on exposure at this time,
but please note that you have posted in ProPhoto RGB....it does NOT
display properly in some browsers....should "convert" final jpg to sRGB colorspace

I'm using Firefox on a Mac and see it as the second purplish version.

I also like the multiple "connections" of the reflection.

Converted to sRGB, set white and black points, and ran Noiseware.

Have you enabled color management....it is NOT enabled/working by default.
It has to be enabled after install....most easily by an add on that can be toggled on and off at will.

Mine is looking fine on Safari !!! ... but strongly suggest posting in sRGB !!!!! Dave is correct !!!

If you look at the histogram the exposure is under by at least 2/3 ? Do like the strong reflection and pose, neat. Could select the eye area and do some work to make it sharper ... can just darken the pupil !!!

    Excellent re post David !!!

I use Firefox 3, but I deliberately don't enable color management. I like to see how my images will look on browsers that aren't color-managed. I can see the color-managed display inside Photoshop.

I would assume at your skill level, you would not post other than sRGB to web.
You are advanced and way ahead of most of us in these matters....why post another colorspace
for "some" to see an incorrect version?

Dave, I export via Lightroom and had the color space accidentally set to RGB, but have now corrected it to sRGB, as you see. (BTW, I use Firefox on a PC)

looks good Dave and David's white balance is super.

Here is a link for the Firefox add on for color management.
This allows turning it on and off

Davids repost is much better - I see version 1 in Safari on a PC.
Like the pose and the reflection.

On my screen - Mr bird seems to be lacking some detail - has it had NR run over the whole image??

Yes, Lance. Do you recommend generally masking and running NR on BK only?

David T., as always the magician that takes an already wonderful image and makes it greater! Could you explain in a bit of detail setting the white and black points so we can all adjust our white/off-white birds to white?

    Thanks Mate, Jay

Dave, I have now added this to my FireFox/PC. Default in enabled/sRGB; do you simply enable/disable or do you use different color profiles as well? Thanks, Jay

Thanks, Jay. I'll put together a little tutorial. It isn't a complicated procedure, but I want to show each step -- at least as I do it. Stay tuned.

HI Wendell - Yes - I only ever run NR on the background - except in some special circumstances were you might run a very very low NR over the whole image first.

    Your best image so far!
Color, etc., has been covered, but I'd like to see a little more feather and eye detail. I'm not sure whats going on, but I would suspect the 2x convertor is decreasing image quality(detail resolution). Lower light conditions, in my experience, requires very good optics, and a lens that otherwise shows good detail resolution in good light, can fall short with less than optimal lighting. I don't know anything about your lens, but I suspect it is a good lens, yet with the convertor at 2X lower light detail resolution may suffer. Just an hypothesis. regards~Bill
