Okay.... let's try this different approach. No Gausian blur this time. I worked on the exposure and curves on the whites. I lightened and sharpened the eye. I did major renovation on the background to eliminate distractions and light areas. I used Topaz noise reduction. I used NIK software for polarization, center lighten/darken, and, vignette blur.

I did not change saturation from the as shot image. What you see is what was from the camera. In previous posts there was a comment about back lighting. The sun was at my back. My shadow was pointing at the bird. However, there was light reflecting off the vegetation in the background. There was a "hot" area to the left and just above the birds beak.

I learned a lot about Gausian blur that I did not know. Now I do and hopefully other people that have read the posts have learned too.

I found there's a bit too much space all around and so, here's my take. Also did some sharpening and brightened up some spots. Oh, worked on the eye a bit, too.

Hi James Good base image and PS work !!! I like the crop by Desmond since original is a bit centered and we don't want to see that much behind the bird.

If you notice the repost has a catchlight which makes the eye look livelier (good work :) ) Ideally with flash will you would have had the effect and some extra light on the bird !!!

Desmond I know those guys get real blue in full breeding plumage but that character might be suspected on using steroids ... might need a blood test :D:)

Hi James - Desmonds crop is better and the eye work is really great. Bird was too centered in the original/
Good work - keep them coming.

I didn't know what this bird looks like color-wise and I also didn't know James had posted a similar shot sometimes before until I checked some of the responses.

What did you do to add shine to the eyes?

Only a boost in contrast. If you use Photoshop, select the eye then adjust the contrast of it using your favorite tools. I use Levels as it is simple.
