This is a female finch on a windy day. She isn't very colorful, but I liked the overall effect of the shades in her feathers against the background.

    Info:
    Nikon D300
    f/5.6
    Speed 1/250
    ISO 640
    FOcal length 550 using a 200-400 mm f/4 lens with 1.4x converter.

C&C welcome. I always learn things.

Hi Chris. I downloaded your image and opened it in Adobe Camera Raw and clicked on the white feathers with the white balance eye dropper - it shifted the colors just a bit. I also increased the curve from linear to medium contrast - again, another very subtle change.

One thing I noticed is you seem to have placed the focal point on the beak instead of the eye. You might be able to do some selective sharpening to correct that. Very nice composition here and lovely BG.

I agree, yours is less muddy-looking. Thanks!

Nice pose you got from this lady finch. I like the wind-raised crest, and the crossed wing tips. Is this a large-ish crop?...the fine details seem faint and coarse.

This image is about 60% of the size of the original. Maybe I have over sharpened?
