One of my first decent flights handholding the new 500VR. I think I am going to love that lens ;-)
This one is from the same session of my previous images of the eurasian roller. Both species are breeding in the same sand bank very near from home and about just 40 m from several houses.
BTW; I love to photographs in cast days because if you get an adecuate exposure, the images the look of a painting on white paper.

Nikon D300 AFS Nikkor 500VR, handheld, blind, 1/1000s f4 ISO 400. The original RAW file conversion can be viewed at my blog

As always, your comments and critics are highly apreciated :)

I love the high key look with the white BG, Juan. Great colours, eye and comp. Looks very much like detailed painting. I'm sure you will love the lens.

    Juan:

Agree with Tony about the nice high key look. Excellent wing display, angle in frame, sharpness. The exposure looks generally very good, maybe a bit hot at base of upper mandible?

His tail feathers are beat up a bit, but hopefully you will many more opportunities from this location.

    Cheers

    Randy

Congrats on a nice one Juan! Great eye contact and detail. I like the colors you chose for the text at the bottom. It's fun to work a location with consistent bird activity; you really get to know a species.

Great pose, exposure control and details. He really needs a new set of tail feathers. :)

I like the colors and the details. What a colorful bird ! Must be a joy to photo them. Agree with Randy that some spot looks a bit hot. Also, not sure why the belly part look a bit noisy to me or it's how the feathers look.

    Good one nonetheless !

I agree that the white BG makes works well and I like the comp.
The birds feathers dont look in the best condition and this adds to the interest IMO.
Did you use manual exposure and if not may I ask what you exp biaz was.
Good head angle and eye contact.

Manual exposure here Dave, that is the reason why I raised the ISO up to 400. Additional processing job included levels adjustment in the bird body but, as you can see in the RAW file at my blog, there was just a minor adjustment on the exposure. Manual exposure is the one I like the most

I'm not a fan of white backgrounds, but I must say you did well on the exposure here! Did you use any compensation? The 500 VR is a phenomenal lens, you gonna love it:-)

Chris I am enjoying the 500 a lot, it is a fantastic lens ;)
No compensation here. I was shooting birds with a very predictable pattern of flights and, considering the the light didn´t change, it was really easy to find the proper combination of SS, aperture and ISO for a good exposure job. :)
