An image from my recent trip to the Kruger National Park. The background is a mixture of yellow winter foliage, burnt vegetation and sky. This guy was hawking insects in the burnt veld, and warming himself in the early morning winter sun. I was impressed with the performance of the TC17E converter on the 600 f/4.

Chris I like the light, pose, composition and Bg of this image a lot. I would run a noise reduction round to the BG and that is all. Very good job

Wow look at the colors - pure eye candy. The only suggestion I would make is take a look at a vertical crop but that means only take a look -- this is a beauty

love the colors of the bird and BG here. Maybe a little more room at the top, but just great as is.

I like the colours in this Chris, both the LBR, and in the BG. Nice and sharp, and showing good detail. Another round of NR is needed on the BG.

Love the ruffled feathers conveying the morning coolness. BG is superb. Agree on BG NR but wondering re the cause as ISO 1000 on D3 is smooth. ?more a jpg compression/websharpening issue than sensor noise at capture. I agree the 1.7x gives good results.

Great light, details and head angle. I might give it a bit more room at the top. Colors look good, BTW.

Thanks guys! I'm surprised by the noise in the background, I do not seem to have it on the RAW. Tony, perhaps you are right about the jpg compression, still a bit of a mystery to me. And yes, I think I have conquered the cast:-):-)

I am sure that noise on the Bg is due to the processing and preparation for web posting when converting to jpeg because ISO1000 on the D3 is fantastic
