Still trying to capture a good male Mountain Bluebird on sage. Getting closer I think. There are a few things I like and some I don't. Please let me know what you think and how this image could be improved.
Nikon D300
Nikon 200-400mm f4
Nikon 1.4 TCe ii Teleconverter
Aperture Priority
f8
1/800
ISO - 250
-1.0EV
Matrix metering
Cropped in Lightroom
Some exposure adjustment also in LR. I tried to tone down some of the silvery-white tips of the sage but maybe went too far.
Sharpened in Photoshop CS2
Image captured on 28 May 2009, Umtanum Road, near Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington.
Hi Ted - good looking bird - Like the pose and the HA.
Looks just a tad soft on my screen - the green spot in the upper left draws attention away from MR Bluebird - easily fixed via some quick masks. Would also run some NR on the background. Tips of the sage look good to me.
wow, what a beautiful bird. never seen one of these. agree with lance on the techs. could add to bump the ISO for some more shutter speed. D300 does well at some higher ISOs as long as the exposure is good and the bg is lighter. thanks for shariing.
A breautiful bird. Like the HA and the sage tops. I did a crop to eleminate the green circle, lightened the image up a little and sharpened it a bit..
What do you think...??
This is close !!! Just need to place the AF point on the eye area and hold steady Crop wise agree on taking a little of the right side and I like how you left room for the virtual tail !!!
Thanks everyone for your comments. Much appreciated. Also, big thanks to Dave S. for re-working the photo.
Alfred, you mention ensuring that the AF point is on the bird's eye. I must admit that I struggle with the AF on my camera. I have read a great deal on it and played with it in the field but haven't come to terms. Are there any tutorials on AF on BPN? Thanks!
