    I've been reading several articles lately that want you to get closer. So here's closer with my Canon 50D. ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/250 sec, EF100-400 f/4.0L IS USM, 300mm, Evaluative Metering, Auto Exposure, Auto WB, No Flash. Comments Welcome.

    Hi Richard

    Tough bird to photograph with the white !! You need overcast or shade to get detail on both shadows and highlights... unless he stands still and you can do an HDR :) I like the tight crop and bg

    btw don't be afraid of raising the ISO a bit more to 400 Could use the extra shutter speed !!!

    cool bird and pose!! i like the composition. the green bg goes really well with the black bird with that little bit of red. when it's bright go tight....that's what i have heard too!!

    Hi Richard - agree with AL'S fine critique - Soft light is the key for Black and White birds.
    Like the pose and the composition - some fantastic details in the beak.
