Default How do you use a monopod?

Is it like the guy in the first photo?

This's pretty much how I use it:

But I also do it the opposite way: set it on the ground behind me and pull the camera back and down while taking the shot.

How do you guys do it?

Both ways Desmond Imagine it has to do with the subject If you can take the time to set up leaning the monopod forward would be the most stable.

When I use a monopod, which is pretty rare, I use it like option 1 Tell's link or the guy pictured on Scot Kelby's blog.

Stability isn't my primary concern, it's being able to have the camera in the ready position with out having to hold it there.

I use the monopod when I am using the 300mm. I mostly stand with my left leg forward and support it.
