Hello, Mark. What a nice subject, one that I hope to photograph some day. A few things come to mind, dust spots need to go, as does that heavy frame. (Overpowers the image, imho) The composition feels off to me, I'd like to see more space to the left of the bird. Looks like you had some harsh light, and I'm not sure if this is a large crop, but the bird in general seems soft and lacking fine detail. I really like the way you left some habitat in the image and the intense stare makes me wonder what he's looking at. I hope you post more of your images.

Hey Mark. Grace had some good comments above. I like the pose and I'm OK with the placement of the bird in the frame though a little more room at the bottom for the virtual feet would be nice. Also, this is a Little Blue Heron rather than a Reddish Egret. :)

Mark, I would move the bird a little more into the image. In addition to Grace's comments, it looks like you applied a bit of NR to the bird too.

Great suggestions have been made. I think this image has nice potential and would certainly be worth the time to go back and redo it from the beginning. I'd place the bird a little more to the right and give a little more room at the bottom.....then go from there.

Interesting angle and nice little blue heron. Is this a heavy crop? If not, how did you sharpen the bird? I would tone down the highlights and try to get more details in the shadows using curves and/or S/H.
