A Grizzly Bears claws are 3" long. How long are an Osprey's talons? :)

    1 1/2" - 2" is my guess.

Does anyone "in the big city" have access to a stuffed Osprey that could be examined close up and personal to determine talon size with maybe a relative age on the subject?

Last night we were at a picnic at Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge here in MD. I asked the local bird guru this question and then went to check on the stuffed osprey. Answer: 1 to 1 1/2 inches.

Thank you Linda. They appear to be much longer. Perhaps it is a relative size illusion. The one pictured seems to have talons the same lenght as the top curvature of the beak which I thought would have been longer. Can't argue with a stuffed bird - thanks. It is amazing how a 22" long bird has over a 6' wing span!
