Opinions/suggestions welcome. I am not so sure about the reflections off of the black feathers. The reflections are interesting when the image is viewed full screen. I am not so sure, however, if I like them when the image is scaled, as it is here, or printed at a reasonable size. -?

Hi - A big warm welcome to the BPN Family - Nice first post!!!!!
Love the HA and the super sharp clear eye - would not expect anything else with that lens.
Exposure looks good - I like the details including the iridescent blacks.
A little tight at the bottom and might recrop to put the eye on the ROT.

Well done - great first post.

Great image, love the BG and super sharp eyes. The exposure looks very good, I can see a lot of detail in the blacks. The iridescent blacks do are not distracting to me. I would like to see the tail of the bird, but I understand that birds aren't good and taking directions from the photographer! Nice job.

The rich, well exposed blacks are a delight. Very nice head angle. I'd like to see it with a little more room at the bottom.

Thank you for the comments. This is my first real camera (and lens) and I am still very much in the learning phase (scattered days over the last few months). The image is cropped only from the top but is tight at the bottom because the top focus point was on his eye. I really like feather details and thus tend to leave the lens at 400 mm and frame using the focus points... Does the D300 have any higher focus points than my D90? I could have certainly zoomed out a little and would have probably removed the 1.4TC had time permitted.

big welcome to BPN, brian!!! awesome first post. agree with the others on the techs. would have loved for you to zoom out a little to include the virtual tail of the bird. as far as the D300 and it's points, i dont know if there are any higher than the D90. not familiar with the D90. the D300 has 51 AF points. how many does the D90 have?

Excellent first post...a big warm welcome to the PBN family...I like the sharp details and good color rendition on your subject...you have a good head angle and clear sharp eye...would consider off centering your bird to the right side of the frame a tad...looking forward to your next one...

    Big Warm Welcome Brian !!!

Would consider a vertical crop and leave enough room for the virtual tail !!! Do like it as presented and got a clean bg !!!
