    Default Black-throated Green Warbler.

This past weekend I had my first "cottage outing" for 2009, where warblers are pretty much a guarantee:) The BTGWs traditionally respond well to tape, as did this one. A blind was also used. Unfortunately we are right in the middle of black fly season but thankfully the cool and windy weather kept those to a relative minimum (but did nothing to deter the mosquitos YIKES!!).

Canon 40D + 100-400L @370mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 640, -0.7 EC, natural light (bright overcast), handheld, just about full-frame.

    Daniel:

I always look forward to my first trip to the cottage each year too.

Very nice fellow, sharp, well exposed, nice comp ( wouldn't want the bird any tighter), The delicate purple on the leading edge of the wing is nice.

I might consider bringing up the throat and breast area just a bit if you can do it without too much noise.
A bit more DOF would be nice, but handheld you were pushing it!

    Cheers

    Randy

    Really nice warbler.
Love the pose and environment around it. I would blur the BG a little more.

Daniel, I like the colours on the warbler, and you have exposed them nicely. Just enough DOF to show his enviroment, and your comp works well.

I had one of these in the UP a couple of days ago........what a treat. Love the colors and detail along with the greenery of the pine trees. The cool temps and rain pretty much put a damper on my trip.....glad you were successful.

Very nice exposure and eye contact. For us this is a spring migrant in the oak woods. It's interesting to see him in pine.

Nice image in its breeding habitat ,since most of us are mostly familiar with it on migration.
The eye reflection is sort of bothersome to me ,but that is personal since this appears to be sky reflection on a cloudy day. It is not a serious distraction. I personally love to see photos of our neotropical migrant birds of any type.
Nice job handholding the 100-400 with it racked out -Im not too sucessful with this lens and hand holding for small birds.

    very nice capture Daniel,
As mentioned, great exposure and detail, and a nice DOF. Don't mind your blurred BG, but I do prefer the extras gaussian blur in Peter's repost.

    Well Done!

Hey thanks Peter, the subtle gaussian blur looks good.

Very nice image...lovely sharpness, and feather detail...glad for you, you got a break in the weather on Saturday. Black Flies have been brutal in Ompah, when we've been fishing.
