    Iiwi, found on the Big Island of Hawaii. These guys do not hold still for very long, but it has been a great learning experience chasing them.
    This is one of my first with the bird out in the open, usually they are hiding in the canopy.

    Nikon D3, 500mm + 1.4 tc, f8, 1/1000, and ISO at 2500.
    Cropped, selectively sharpened around the eye and bill, and reduced the background noise.

    I really like the bird's position and overall composition, but I'm bothered by the halos around the bird's back and the leaves above ... maybe from S/H filter?

    David,
    Thanks for the input. The halos are breaks in the canopy where the light is coming through. I will try toning those down.

    Cool bird and nice perch. I would sharpen the bird more and maybe increase saturation or contrast? It looks a bit flat on my monitor. Keep them coming!
