I seldom get over this way but have enjoyed seeing family photos and the motorcycle postings so thought I'd add one of my own. I have been a keen rider since my childhood when I spent all spare time working on my bike or riding in the woods. Since leaving school road riding has been fun and at time commuting but over the past couple of years I have again enjoyed dirt riding with my son, Paul, as I feel learning to ride in the dirt gives a great opportunity to learn the reflexes needed before entering traffic. This is s shot from a couple of years ago - local farmers allow use of their land for organised trail rides to raise funds for the local rural schools - great family day and lots of fun.
Thank you for sharing Tony. I have ridden the California deserts for over thirty years and think it is a wonderful family pastime which also teaches the skills necessary for street riding. A couple of years ago I sold my dirt rocket - a tricked-out XR600, and now ride my KLR 650 in a more sedate manner. ;) My first two dirt bikes were Suzuki RM-250s. Love that suspension!
Hi Tony, great to see you active, and its always good to stay in shape, no matter what you do. Im sure this is framed on one of your cabinets at home. As you are an ex South African, I am a comrades runner and have done four. I didnt run this year, but will certainly be back next year and hopefully do ten. It takes many early mornings and evenings to clock up the milage, but you reap the rewards when you cross the finish line in a good time. Cheers, Stuart.
Stuart, PMB is my home town so Comrades was part of the year. Completing 4 is a great achievement - well done. I've run a number of marathons but can't quite get my head around doing 2 back to back! I guess it's a bit coloured by working in Greys Hospital casualty and picking up the pieces after the up runs.
