These two mute swans were imaged at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary near my home.

My first thought was that they were cramped by the composition, but part of me says that it adds a certain intimacy to their pose. Interested in the groups input on composition.

An almost perfect heart, very good timing. I like the centered composition but wish to see a bit more of the bottom instead of the empty top.

    Randy,
A little more room all around might look good, but I find my attention is drawn to the heart in the center so it may not matter. If you have the full reflection, giving a double heart, that might be very interesting.

I love the pose and the detail in the swan's necks. I like this pose even more than I would a perfectly symmetrical one. It gives a sense of love and protection.

I would like to see what it would look like with a little room all around.

One of my favourite subjects Randy, nicely exposed for those brilliant whites :) I also would like them just a little higher in the frame and a little of the space at the top removed. It may be my eyes but does it need the smallest cw rotation ?

I like the heart shape formed by the birds necks and heads. Adds to the intimacy and story of the image.

Randy, well timed to capture the "heart" from their pose. Whites look well controlled, and just love the dangling droplet from the beak on the right. I would leave the space on top as is, and add bottom, left and right.

Excellent, Randy. I agree that your comp isn't cramped. I like the irregularity of the "heart," the slight overlap of the birds, and the fact that one head is a little above the other.

Depending on how the image is used, an even tighter crop could work ...

Great mood and interaction. You could the birds either a bit higher in the frame or crop a bit off the top.

    Thanks everyone who commented.

Good eyes by those who mentioned rotation. I checked, and leveling from the bottom of one bird to the other resulted in a .82 degree rotation, CW! It does look better. It crowds the tail feathers even more however.

I will add just a bit of canvas on both sides, possibly the bottom, and trim the top.

    I appreciate all the input!

    Randy,

What a wonderful photo of avian behavior. Love the exposure on this one.
    Thanks for sharing...

I wouls suggest to tone down the green in the BG to get and almost black BG, but the rest, poses, light, detail, comp, all is wonderfull IMO. Congratulations!
