Hi Harshad !!!
You come up with some interesting images for cropping !!!!
At first look I thought a horizontal with the extra room on the right would look good .. and just a tad more on left.
As a vertical does work well, might give more room at the bottom and not quite center but move the animal more to the center !!! Like the pose and overall look !!.... plus those intense eyes !!!
Hi Alfred thanks a lot for suggations.
I dont have much of a space at botton , So like this type of composition more, Gives me feel of running Jackal
But I think I will loose intensity in those eyes
Harshad
I like this a lot Exactly what I was thinking btw the space at bottom would have been for the vertical !!
Wander how everyone else will feel about it !!!
Hi Alfred
you spoke my heart, Thanks alot
Horizontal for me
Harshad
Nice image Harshad.
I wish you had the room to the left, versus the right.
Attached is one example of what I would do, but just a suggestion.
Possibly a little more DOF would be nice to have the bottom in focus, as it is a small area and slightly distracting in my view. The background is nice, so maybe 1/2 stop would have solved the foreground DOF.
If you were doing a vertical, I would crop the image about as shown with the black crop lines. I would bring down the top a little, to get the eyes near the 1/3 line, though you can't get to the intersection point without grealy changing the image and I don't think it is necessary, but the vertical location would be nice.
For a horizontal, I would crop closer to the blue line, just to the left of the shadow area of the grass on the bottom. I would also want more room to the left, about twice the distance of the right open area, as shown by the extension and blue line.
Just my vision for your image. But enjoyed seeing it. Thanks.
Hi Harshad,
After looking at both compositions, I go with the first one...this looks good in the vertical cut...good show...
Hi Mark
Just wondering why would you have more space to the left if the animal is looking right? Looks sort of odd but never opposed to go against the grain. dof wise if you close down one half stop will have no difference.... to make sure just did a check on the tables !! Sure like the idea of the lines to show different crop ideas !! Easier to compare !!!!
There is no right or wrong with the composition in any way Maybe there are more possibilities ... still like post number two best !!!
Hi Alfred, Clarification per your request. No problem with your thoughts, these are just my views and suggestions.
The animal is looking slightly to the right, actually more toward the photog. However, he is moving to the left, per the leg placement. As such, I would not expect the animal to go in the direction he is looking in the photo, unless it were interested getting up close and personal with the photog! :D I would expect it to follow it's leg movement, if it needed to escape for any reason.
Sorry about the aperture, I was just "paraphrasing" for clarification. I didn't look at his setting. But the thought remains, I don't personally care for the OOF FG, being that it is such a small area. Like you, I don't want to cut it and would like slightly more. But working with what he gave us, except for the suggestion of additional room on the left, I would "prefer" that it be in focus. If he had the time and could check all issues, that is what I would suggest.
I fully agree with you, on the fact that there is no right answer, just those of the viewers and the vision of the photog. He should go with his, unless he is shown a better way that allows him to make his vision truly develop. I always try to make that clear to the photog, if I have suggested changes. I rarely want to make recommended changes, unless they are absolutely needed for the image, which in my opinion is why I rarely make them, as such. ;)
As for the cropping lines, as noted in my OP, it is rough, but I like to give some idea of what I am suggesting so they can see if the general idea is to their liking. I would spend more time on my own image, if I were doing a major crop like this. But for the general information, I think this is a good way to get the point across and save a few thousand words, as the saying goes! :D
As for the better post, I agree with you, if he would crop out the right side! ;)
First one for me as well - the small OOF area does not bother me. First crop puts more focus on the subject and those eyes.
Personal Taste though. Nice feel to it and good show:)
i like both! you got some great detail for the crop in the first one. two different feels here. i have to lean towards the second one myself. great in-camera composition!!!
Definitely either the first or Mark's black crop. The closer crop emphasizes the "stare".
