That is some clear water - nice details and colours on Mr bird. I think I would crop a little from the bottom and remove the green leaf in the upper right. Not a great fan of the high shooting angle - but it works well here.
IMHO whilst the lighting is a little mixed - it highlights the bird nicely.

    Keep them comimg :)

    Hi Mack,
I like the habitat capture...agree with Mr. Peters on his fine assessment...I would just tone down the warm whites on the bird's head...looking forward to your next one...

Agree with comments !!! Can add would work on the eye Can darken pupil and will appear even sharper !!!

As mentioned the high angle is not desirable but the reflection helps it out !!! ... good exposure !!

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the behavior exhibited in the image, as being one of the fairly few examples of animals using tools! Green Herons, especially in zoo settings, have been known to use bait to attract their prey, often fish pellets in the zoo setting. Thus the tittle is especially apt.
Uneven lighting seems to be a primary problem here. The angle the image was captured is a problem too, yet too low an angle is equally problematic. Usually dividing an image with reflection in half vertically, with the element on top, and its reflection on the bottom, works well. Since this works best when the element and reflection are of equal size, this will determine the best angle for capture.
Harsh direct sunlight, especially at a high angle exhibited by the shadow, are a big problem, and to be avoided. Fill-light is an option, but in this case it would likel create a un-natural metallic look to the water, and proper exposure would be hit or miss IMO.
    Hope I've been helpful ~Bill

The clear water IMO makes this higher angle shot very nice. I like that you can see the birds feet and the reflection of the bird on the water. I agree about the highlights, croping the bottom and removal of the green leaf. Nice work.
