Default Problem with CS3. won't open raws

I am having a problem with CS3. I can't open any NEF raw files. The problem started with an error message that a .dll file was missing, so I reinstalled the missing file. This cleared up that particular error message, but now I am getting another error message - "could not complete your request because of a program error". I have uninstalled and then reinstalled and reinstalled and repaired with not success? This may be a system problem as I also tried to restore and the restore point was corrupt, and , for some reason, their are no other restore points available?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Are you running a firewall, like zonealarm? That could cause problems on the install. This is one of those situations where it can take forever to diagnose and fix. How old is the system and are you current on operating system updates? Have you checked for viruses?

Roger, the system is about 2 years old, Vista. I did have Norton running so maybe that's part of the prob? I am up to date on all Vista pacs and Norton updates also. I haven't actually ran a virus scan lately but I was thinking that Norton would detect for me? I will run a V scan and then try to uninstall/reinstall again asap. Thanks

I had no luck getting you to switch from Nikon to Canon. How about PC to Mac? :D:eek::)

Reinstall Abode Camera Raw 4.6 for CS3

FYI- CS3 Raw will not open the newer NEF camera files, YOU MAY NEED CS4 5.3

I have CS3 and it opens my D300 files just fine and a friend has the D700 and D3 and it opens theirs just fine. So a total reinstall might be in order with a registry clean in between. Have you installed the nikon codec?
