I haven't participated much the past few weeks due to spring gardening.:D

Nikon D300, 1/100 sec., f 7.1*, ISO 200, Pattern metering, manual exposure, manual focus, tripod, natural light, outdoors, shade. auto WB. PP: Elements 7 and PS 7. Taken at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, USA.
*(A few words about the EXIF data. My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site: http://www.jeffree.co.uk/pages/macro-faqs.html ).

Very nice vertical, I feel it could use some space at the top, too close to the edge. Pretty good DOF, you could have also gone smaller.
Good to have you back :)

Hey Anita, very well done, pitcher plants can be tough as there so close to the ground and cluttery, but you capture this one with a nice clean BG.

Love the angle of the comp, and the lighting and clarity of the lid.

I like the pano idea but it is too tight all around. And yes to enough d-o-f to get the front edge of the white and purple part in focus. Nice colors, EXP, amnd BKGR.

    Hi Anita,
I know the plant well and the location......next to the Jack-in -the -pulpit.........one of the toughest. Location .....definitely bonus points!!! With the D300 i would have pushed the f stop in both directions using the ISO for more SS on the smaller aperatures......if I could then convice you to use the flash as fill.....this may have qualified as the perfect species!!!

I love these, Anita! Saw them for the first time at a botanical garden up in Michigan...what a cool plant. I agree that a little more DOF on the body of the plant would be nice but you sure nailed the focus on the "lid."

Sweet image. Love the colors, reticulations, & clean BG. I'd vote for a tad more DOF to get the "pourspout" of the pitcher in focus.

Thanks, Mike. This one was growing in a planter at Longwood Gardens, which made it much easier to photograph.

I appreciate all the constructive comments. I can add more space around it iin PP. I think I have another shot with a bit more dof, but, I was challenged to keep the BG blurred. I'm not good at blurring it in PP.
