    This guy had staked out a territory right next to a moderately busy trail. He was constantly on the alert to confront anyone walking by. I've deliberately cropped close to emphasize his in-your-face attitude.

    D300, 200mm, f/3.5, 1/2000, ISO 200.

    nice looking bird with beautiful pose...the head looks a bit soft

    Hi Bill. I like the tight crop but would have preferred slightly more of a profile view of the bird. For this kind of photo, I would have stopped down significantly from f/3.5 to f/8 or f/11. I would sharpen the bird a bit more, and I would try to recover some more detail in the blacks. Thanks for posting!
