Hi Jan Big Welcome !!!!!! Fine first post Beautiful and one of my nemesis birds You must have fairly close since the dof is minimal I like the pose a lot and don't mind having the room opposite to where he is looking Gives me the impression he is shy and wants to look the other way

Normally I don't stop down much and tend to shoot all wide open For really close up birds will stop down a bit I like it a lot !!!!

    Hi Jan,

Lovely capture. I'm not too crazy about the pose but the colors and details are super!

I like the pose but wonder whether a vertical crop might work better. With the Mark III you could have easily gone up to ISO 800 and stopped down to f/8 or so for wider DOF.

Thank you all for the comments.

@Axel: I know. But I like the small DOF so I used the f/4.0. This was my intent. I like it:)

    Hi Jan,
I like the pose of the bird but I am not sure about the composition with lots of place at the right side.
I think, I know the bird... There are some pictures in this forum from me and I think it is the same Bird :-))
But you had much better weather than me!

Jan, congratulations on a superb first posting. Wunderbar! I wouldn't change a thing . . . but, if I had been fortunate enough to have this magnificent bird lined up in me viewfinder, I might also have tried an image with more DOF. Then you have the best of of both worlds.
