    Fabs:

Just lovely, both from a composition and color standpoint.

I like the slight wave or sand down in LLC, acts as a subtle balance to the bird, which even seems to be looking there.

From a tech. standpoint, do think the whites on the lower abdomen are pretty hot. I did check the red channel and their are some blown pixels in that area, and a few in the other whites on the bird.

    The BG is really fine.

Thanks for sharing. All the sand in your clothes was worth it for this one.

    Cheers

It seems by your and Jim Fenton's comments, that there's a difference between Capture NX and ACR. According to my conversion all whites were in control, so go know. Where did you check the histogram?
I suppose Lightroom is also different and this could account for soe hot pixels we see in each others pictures...

My photoshop CS2 shows hot area in red channel, but it is very low.
One way to make a "fine" check is to make a selection of the suspect area
and then check the channels histogram........but this amt is very minor.

Also note that if/when image is changed to a smaller color gamut, that the histo usually moves right.
    Often same thing on compression

love the image, that is was beautiful bg

    Fabs:

I checked it in NX2, both on the histogram and blown highlight checker. I wonder if this is another example of jpeg induced changes, cause if the raw file is fine in PS, it is probably fine in NX2 also. I had a discussion a bit back about this variation between programs.

I did think the whites were a bit hot even before checking it. Looked at it on two different monitors.

Thanks, guys, it must have been the change from RGB to sRGB. The light was very warm, though.

watch the histogram next time you convert Adobe RGB to sRGB......it will definitely jump right on you.

    Fabs:

You may do this already, but I have been burned by this enough times that I always do a highlight check on the jpeg after the conversion.

Will do that, Randy and Dave, thanks :)
I'm usually on the other side with darker whites :)

Great angle, pose, details and the dreamy setting makes this one for me. Regarding the whites I noticed this especially in images I made very early or late in the day. The histogram in the TIFF file looks fine, after jpg sRGB conversion there can be clipped whites and/or reds.

What a lovely image. It is so dreamy.
Love the pose of this guy and the killer BG. I don't see clipped reds here but if there are some are not so many.

A smooth, silky background...with some nice color tones. I like the one-legged preening pose too. I'm sure this guy is beautiful in his breeding plumage now...but he's probably a couple-thousand miles north up in the arctic!

Simply fabulous Fab (does Fabs = Fabulous ;-).
I love shots of bird when it turns backward and the whole body is lit.
The calm water adds a sense of serenity. Definitely a wallposter for me.

Fabs, great low angle, and love the pose. Sharp with good detail, and really like those softer colours in the BG.
