I photographed this juvenile Barn Swallow in a local park yesterday. The sky was overcast and it was pretty close to minimum focusing distance. The bird was more interested in begging than caring about me. :)

    Look at those veins!

Amazing details Axel. Love to see the sky on the eye acting as a mirror. BG colors are very complementary.

Beautiful sharp detail throughout. The sharpness of the throat feathers was almost overlooked in seeing the detail of the mouth.

I can see the tree line in his eye and the veins in the inside of the bill.

Great shot! I like the overcast lighting and the details inside the bill and on the bird itself.

Axel I am sure that if we upsize this image up to 200% we would see you and the lens reflected in the eye of this young guy :-D
Superb light, BG, and the details are amazing!

Timing was perfect for this shot! There is everything to like about this shot that has been said as above. For me it is the open mouth and glint/reflection off the eyes that turns this one into a winner. Congratulations.

Ditto Ramon and the rest. How did you make this sharp at 1/200 sec. handheld at 18.2X magnification? With open-billed images a bit of flash can really light up the inside of the mouth. All in all, outstanding.

I used my usual technique, neck strap around one shoulder and elbow tucked in, IS makes all the difference.

Axel, well timed to capture the open beak, and you have exposed the colours on him nicely. Excellent sharp detail, and the veins in the mouth/beak takes it over the top for me. Congrats.

Pretty sharp for 1/200 were you on a tripod? Lighting and detail are supberb. I think I can see your reflection in the bird's eye.
