This was taken at Palo Alto Baylands last week. The tern tried swallowing the fish; lost it twice and still managed to catch it with some exciting acrobats. I liked this one because the extended tongue and its reflection on the wing. Do you think the light was harsh? The settings were -

    40D, Canon 98-280mm @ 280mm
1/1250 sec, f/8 Mode: Av Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: +.66 ISO: 400 handheld

Lightened the shadow in ACR, reduced background noise, applied usm and extended the canvas on the left. Your feedback would be appreciated.

Interesting story, Indranil. I like the curves in the tail , wings and bill shadow. Deep blue sky is nice. The open bill and tongue are interesting but look a bit uncomfortable in this image to me. Cropping a little from the right would decentre the bird and you could probably add the same amoiunt to the left to maintain the aspect ratio.

Thanks Tony. I see your point. Also, here is a repost with the subject decentered...

The shadow on the wing is priceless! Great and original! Only wish the bird's left wing was better lighten, but it looks very good despite that. Congratulations!

I like the pose, open bill and shadow of bill and tongue on the far wing and only wish the bird were a bit lower in the sky.
