    I'm not very familiar with west coast birds but it looks like a California Towhee: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/California_Towhee/id

    I would say yes but I have 3 books and they all show it being a grayish color, but they do not show a juvenile bird either.

    A common, dull brown, with moderately long dark tail. Pale rusty undertail coverts and streaked, buffy or rusty throat (Pertersons Guide)...agree with Axel...... California Towhee
