    Default Slaty-Tailed Trogon

This was a new species for me in Costa Rica this year. We were treated to a competition between two males over a female early one morning. If you get the exposure right, the Mark III does some amazing things at high ISO.

    Doug:

Great job on the reds. As you say, very low noise for this ISO. Maybe a little creeping in on the dark tail feathers, but minor.

I might remove the small catchlight from the flash, and maybe tone down the perch just a bit.

    Thanks for sharing with us!

Very nice shot Doug. The high ISO is not showing which I find impressive! Like the perch pose and colours in the bird. Would probably boost the contrast a bit more if this were mine. Nicely done!

Very nice, excellent for the high ISO. Agree with Randy about cloning out that little flash catchlight.

Superb job and fantastic result for such a high ISO. I think that fill flash and nailed exposure are the best way to avoid noise in such high ISO conditions. Did you run noise reduction on the BG? Anyhow, a very good result considering the light condition and th efact that the bird seems to be perched high but you saved the situation with the creat eye contact. Well done

Good job in the low light, Doug. Agree on burning in the perch a bit. Interesting that there is a similar bird with similar colouring (Narina Trogon) in Southern Africa. I was fortunate to see one once but long before digital cameras :(

I wish the bird was a tad lower, other than that, it looks very nice, great colors, BG, perch, detail, and sharpness! Congratulations!

Great exposure control, details and eye contact. The use of fill really made this one. Another vote for removing the second catchlight.
