I sure wish I had cuter subjects!! But if this is all I can find, how can I improve on this type?

Oh, I forgot to ask my main question for posting today--- (I know this image isn't great, but it is a sample for you to see in answering the following question.....)

Tomorrow I have an opportunity to photograph somebody really cute--- baby Eurasian Eagle Owls. I have this Tamron lens and the Sigma "Big Ma". What are your suggestions on photographing the babies? I do not know they physical environment. But I think I might be able to be as close as I wish.

Hi Cheryl If you can get close remember to take extension tubes !!!!

With your wide angle you could try crawling and holding the lens up front of you ... can even pre set the distance since dof will be great !!!

For the froggy might try more dof Sure would like seeing the front leg in focus but not sure if it would be possible. Fill flash would also be good !!!

    Hi Cheryl,
Wishing you well on your photo shoot tomorrow...I like Mr. Frog, I would suggest opening up the mid-tones and toning down the red oof in the background; my eye keeps going there...looking forward to your next one...

thank you for all of your help. I did try a fill flash, and while I am getting better results, I didn't like the frog's pose as well. There wasn't enough room between the frog and the wall so i couldn't get down in front of it.

Alfred, I don't understand you comment about if I can get close then take extension tubes.....

cheryl, if you get close, you may within the minimum focal distance for the lens you are using. extension tubes will allow you to get closer than that distance. with the bigma, i think, the minimum focal distance at 500mm is around 15 feet. with tubes you can get closer than that and have your subject bigger in the frame.
