    Default Michigan Eagle

Just back from up near the Mackinaw Bridge. My family is fortunate to spend some time each year on a small inland lake there. Pretty quiet, usually only a few boats out at a time, so pretty good birding opportunities.

This fellow was patrolling the lake. Shot from a row boat (with trolling motor), which lets me move around quietly.

D300 300mm/f4 with 1.4 TC, f/6.3 ISO 800 1/1250s handheld It was about 8:30pm, so light fading fast, but mellow. I got another series a few minutes later, much closer, but lost too much light, so motion blur unfort.
    About 50% crop here.

Comments always appreciated. I wish there was no 'jewelry'

    Randy,
I spent 15 summers on Mullett Lake (can't be too far from where you were) and remember the long days and great sunsets. You sure did well here. I especially like the angle of the bird and your composition. The warm light is a plus.

    Hi Randy!
I don't like this kind of jewelry either :) but I do your image! Very nice eagle and wing position. Some fill flash might have helped here to get more details in the blacks.

It is funny to think of you taking pictures at 8:30pm, at that time I go to sleep since is very dark in here.

Personally, I don't mind the jewelry and I always try to see if I can zoom in to get some official ID on these birds :)

Like the wing spread / posse, like the late light.

Perhps you could open up the underside of the wings a bit with QM or shadows / highlights?

Great job in not blowing the whites with the light this warm.
