Sweet as can be, Dave. Nice grainy texture too. I know this a taste issue, but the black frame seems too bold for the ethereal feel of the image.
like the textured/noisy feel on the surface.
That may be best "chop" sig I have seen yet....bet Dan's gonna recommend reducing it in size
Dave, Love the look to this one and I think you nailed the Theme! Love the chop!!
Great Dave M. !! Dave P. is right though, I would reccommend reducing the size of both the chop and the calligraphy. This may be just me, but the larger size of these elements seems to detract from the beautiful rose! The color of the calligraphy is another of my peeves. Red is probably ok but a very important element of Chinese art is black, and your piece is lacking this. If the calligraphy was smaller and black, I would be happy:D:D. But this is a great piece!
Changed the color and shrank the chop and name as commented.

That looks great Dave! The addition of the black is very nice. I my have not been very clear in my description of the use of color in the chop/calligraphy, but it is best to use red for the chop. I am not sure what the proper color is for the calligraphy but I have only seen black used. I may be too picky here, but chop red and calligraphy black works best for me. This is a great piece Dave!!
I've seen mostly that the chop is red and the signature is black. It also seems to me that usually the signature and the chop are close to each other, too, like the signature on top and then the chop right underneath it. The writing usually is from top down, not from left to right. Traditionally, Chinese writing is from top to bottom, from the right to the left across the page. English, etc., write from the left across the page.

I looked up a site where they translate your name into Chinese. The name Dave is on the right and this is how they showed it.Since I'm not a student of Chinese I thought I was showing it correctly. Am I not?
The few Chinese paintings in my house all happen to have the signatures and the chops appear on the bottom left hand corner. Just in case you want to change yours to see how it looks, put the character on the left over the second one. Your name Dave in Chinese characters as is are written from the left to the right, the way you write the word "Dave".
Dave, I like the smaller /black letters and agree the chop should be red. I too looked up my name and it was written left to right-I guess I will put it top to bottom, not sure why it's shown like that either! Nice re-post and I think it will be a masterpiece when finished!!
My position on the calligraphy use as judge is.... I don't read, write or speak any Asian language, so I don't use any Asian characters on my paintings or digital art pieces without consulting my Chinese brush painting instructor. Likewise for the characters within my chops, I trust her to make the call. As for the calligraphy that I do use, it is english with an Asian flair! So, I will not be judging the Asian characters used this week aside from overall placement, size, overall Asian look and color. :)
Like your repost Dave, works for me:) Maybe we need a 101 on Chinese characters. Thought everything got placed on the left as Desmond mentioned. Still has a nice feel to me.
