Another of the series from yesterday's morning at the lake...Does anyone else feel like this needs a boost in contrast or am I just too used to photographing florals?

    Canon 40D, EF 70-200mm f/4L, 1.4TC
    f9 @ 1/320th, ISO 200
    Manual mode, handheld, pattern metering
Processed in ACR & CS4; again...another good sized crop (not quite as much as the first one.)

The good news? I'm finally getting a 400mm lens (thanks to Axel!) :D:D:D

I like the calling pose and eye contact and would crop a bit off the top. Contrast looks good on my monitor.

The 400 is happy to be used again. :)

I agree with Axel, contrast looks good. I like the idea of the image very much Jules. I like both posts and can't decide which is better. I think the image would have more presentation impact if it were a little larger. I've been posting 950 pixels wide images lately, which is a good compromise between image size and monitor size.

This has plenty of contrast for me, Jules. I prefer the repost with a little tighter farming. I like the pose as it makes the bird's legs seem longer that usual. The open beak is a plus. I'm guessing that you were near a nest (?) The plants on the left help to balance out the comp.

Very nicely composed with the plant creating good balance to the bird. Great EXP and very sharp.
See in Macro tomorrow night :)

Julie, the contrast looks fine, and like the pose with the open beak. Axel's re comp works well.

Steve, I'm guessing I was, too, although I never actually saw it. I was walking along the edge of a lake and they were everywhere! I even got a few images of the baby chicks but they are so small comparitively to the surroundings that I didn't post any here.

Most of the time I drop by the lake at night and see only one or two adults; I've now discovered that showing up around 8 a.m. is THE time for seeing them out and about. There had to have been close to a dozen of them scurrying around between all the ducks and geese looking for food. I just stood on the other side of the slope and watched them come and go...

Like the open bill and the repost. The contrast looks fine from here.
