I finally tried my 100/2.8 lens. Took this close up of a rhodo last evening and ss may be too slow for a sharp photo. 50D, 100/2.8 at f/4, 1/30, EC+1, ISO800. Dave

That lens takes some getting used to! I cursed it for a good month before I got the hang of it. 1/30th is slow but you should be able to get a decent image even handheld if you are bracing yourself against something.

I really like the diffused look on this. I think it might be stronger with more DOF - maybe 5 or 5.6 - to get the other stamen in focus. I'd also suggest either cropping or cloning the dark area at the bottom right corner of the frame.

Have fun and don't give up! Once you know what that lens will do you'll be amazed at the images you can create with it.

I like this shallow dof image. Beautiful color and composition. Agree with Jules re. lower right corner.

    Hey Dave,
Good advice on the technique given above....at 1/30th need to be rock steady. I am usually more of a DOF guy so I agree with Jules on a bit more. I still struggle on that side with macro......so keep plugging away!

Lovely abstract, with soft pink feel to it. I'm OK with the DOF, then again, I'm a wide open photographer :)
