This photo was taken in early morning light last week. It is only slightly cropped. I don't know the white duck's species. She was protecting about 14 ducklings, of three different colorations (different families?), from threats by a nearby heron. The little ones not pictured were close by, tightly clustered in a group. Although it looks as though the black duckling is dead, that is not the case, it got right back up; I guess it was resting.

I tweaked here and there and am not sure I "saved" the image . . . but I do like the theme it conveys . . .

Looks like a common duck ... and a real nice one !!!

Only one burnt spot by the wings but rest of the whites look good Would give it more room is you have it The little guy on the bottom is very tight and the parent could use more room !!!

With those guys protect and defend is right !!!!

Hi Wendell - agree with AL - too tight on the bottom for the little guy = a lower shooting angle might have yeilded some interesting results.
    keep them coming :)

    Hi Wendell,

Cute shot, and the kind that you hate to toss. Agree with all comments that more room would make the photo a super keeper. Love the story it depicts.

Looking forward tyo your next post
