Found this little bird doing some home improvement. I had the flash with beamer on the camera so I thought I would try program mode in this situation. It seems to have worked out well. Capture at Satwiwa in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

    50D, 400mm f/5.6
f5.6@1/125 sec, ISO 400 Program Mode, AI servo focus
580EX II ETTL evaluative mode, tripod

Thanks Al, that would have been the thing to do. Didn't have the presence of mind to do that! It was a quick "ooh looky" and I the rig on the tripod and fired away! :) Also could have put the Sto-Fen on the flash for even softer light. These little ones were so active I was afraid I would lose the moment!
