nikon 400mm lens hood screw

Hopefully this will be my last post in my recent maintenance of equipment.

The screw on my nikon 400mm afs-II lens hood (2 piece) is not tightening to the lens. It twists and but doesn't grab the lens body, but just continues twisting.

Any thoughts? The 2nd level hood screw works fine just the one that connects to the body.

Not very helpful but it sounds like the threads are stripped.

I've had to replace a number of them over the years on my 500 AFSII bodies......I always bought both the knobbed screw, washers, little ceramic things and the mount itself.

They were always in stock and never took more than a couple of days to receive them once ordered.

It is a very common issue with the 500 AFS-II two and a real pain. It is solved on the new versions of both the 400 and 500 (VR models) but if you have an 400 AFS-II I think that you have to live with that problem :-(
