    Default Grey Heron Fly By

This was taken last year in the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve. A reserve about 160km north of Johannesburg. There is a large dam in the reserve, from where we can capture bird life from a hide. This heron flew by below me, thus being able to capture him from the top. Canvas added left, top, and bottom.

    Stuart:

Fine wing display here. Good use of DOF to get both wings sharp. Well exposed, nice HA.

Glad you added canvas, it must have been pretty tight. I think I can see the join line on the left, but probably wouldn't have noticed if not looking for it.

There is a small fuzzy area on the near wing leading edge, right where the gray changes to charcoal. Did you do some work there? Possibly just different texture in the feathers there.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Stuart,

Always great to be able to see the topside. Your timing was perfect and lovely eye contact too. Good detail and exposure as well. Many thanks for sharing.

I like the composition, eye contact and, of course the dorsal view of the heron.

Very nice top view with the beautiful plumage showing. Great EXP and detail. I would like a bit more room behind him.

Stuart, this has fantastic details and a great perspective. I would like to see just a bit more canvas top, bottom and behind.

Good capture Stu. I like the feather colours and detail. Comp works well. You did well with the added canvas.
