Hi Mr H - love the high key effect, good HA and eye contact.

The head/ Eye area looks a little soft to my eyes. Depending on how far away you were - I would have dropped the flash level a little further and increased the +comp if necessary.
Id also be tempted to go vertical with this one.
    :)

Harold - I don't know what high key is but I like it. I have PS Elements 7 so maybe I won't be able to do it but it's neat anyway. I've got so much to learn my brain is spinning! I've never seen
a scrub jay but they look like they've got a lot of personality.:D

cheryl, high key is when you have a grey sky background and to properly expose the bird you totally blow out the background. will have blinkies in the sky, but that's OK. the bird will be exposed the right way and that's what counts.

thanks for the comments. looking at this now, it aint my best work!!

Harold - so this is done when you're taking the picture? Thanks for your help - I've learned so much just reading everyone's comments - I had no idea how much I didn't know!

yes, there was a couple of blue patches that i cloned out, but the rest was naturally blown white in the camera. gives a different feel and a nice change of pace every now and again. sometimes it will even have an asian flare or feel to these types.

Hi Harold, I like this composition and high key is one of my favorite looks; I'd like to see it after you sharpen and I'm wondering if it needs a little more contrast?

I like the effect and it was the way to go Don't think the flash is over since you did not have a BB and used 1/500 sec !!

Did you have to open the image at all? I think I was at close to +2 Just tweak the neutral in selective color and sharpen a bit !!! I like it a lot !!
